our process

A process designed to think ahead.

The best time to solve a problem is before it becomes one.

Our process is intentionally comprehensive, allowing decisions to happen in the right sequence and giving homeowners, builders and trades the information they need, when they need it.

Designing or renovating a home involves hundreds of interconnected decisions. Our role is to bring structure to that complexity—guiding the process from the earliest plans through final installation, so that every decision supports the home as a whole.

We work collaboratively with homeowners, architects, builders, landscape architects, cabinetmakers, lighting designers, electricians, and trades to keep the design aligned from one phase to the next. The result is not simply a beautiful home, but one that has been carefully considered for how it will function, feel, and be lived in.

You do not need to arrive knowing exactly what you want.

Our process is designed to help you make the right decisions in the right order. We begin by understanding how you live, what matters to you, and what you want the home to feel like. From there, we help shape the architecture, interiors, materials, furnishings, and final details as one connected vision.

Some phases overlap, and every project has its own rhythm, but the following gives you a clear picture of how a typical full-service project unfolds.

We have built a process that is intentionally flexible based on the complexity of each project.

what it's like to work with us

We begin with how you want to live.

The first step is learning about you—your family, your routines, your priorities, your aesthetic preferences, and what you want this home to make possible.

This is where we begin aligning around the vision for the project and establishing the foundation for the decisions that follow.

We’ll talk about:

- how your family uses the home
- lifestyle and functional priorities
- aesthetic preferences
- must-haves and non-negotiables
- existing pieces or collections you want to incorporate
- what success looks like for you

We have found that the most successful homes are designed around the people who live in them, not around a singular aesthetic.

Before we decorate the home, we help shape how it works.

We carefully study the architectural plans from an inside-out perspective, looking at form, function, flow, window placement, furniture relationships, circulation, privacy, and how the home will actually operate day to day.

When needed, we work collaboratively with the architect to refine plans, as well as, coordinating with the landscape architect, so both the interior and exterior feel connected. This is often where some of the most valuable decisions happen.

We may notice things like:

- whether a window conflicts with furniture placement
- whether circulation feels natural
- whether a room is proportioned correctly
- whether privacy and window treatments have been considered
- whether daily routines have been accounted for
- whether an architectural decision could create a functional issue later

Solve it on paper, not in the field.

Changes are far easier—and typically far less costly—to make before walls are built. That is why we encourage clients to bring us into the process as early as possible.

The earlier we begin, the more we can consider.

Interior design affects far more than finishes.

Furniture placement can affect windows. Ceiling design affects lighting, speakers, and HVAC. Plumbing selections affect cabinetry. Appliance decisions affect kitchen layouts. Window placement affects privacy, furnishings, and how a room feels.

When the designer is brought in early, these decisions can be considered together rather than corrected independently later.

The goal is not simply to make the house beautiful after it has been built. It is to help make better decisions while it is being built.

You are not hiring us because you want another full-time job.

We ask our clients to be engaged where their perspective matters most—sharing their priorities, reviewing presented concepts, providing clear feedback, and making approvals at the appropriate stages.

From there, our team handles the research, selections, documentation, coordination, procurement, and many of the day-to-day details required to move the project forward.

Our process works best with clients who trust the team they have hired and are comfortable allowing us to lead within the direction we establish together.

We also do not operate separately from the build team.

We work directly with architects, builders, landscape architects, cabinetmakers, lighting designers, electricians, and other trades throughout the project—helping the process feel seamless for you.

This collaboration allows decisions to happen earlier, questions to be resolved faster, and the finished home to feel more cohesive.
